It seems like these days our kids are tempted with more and more unhealthy snacks. It’s no wonder that there are more overweight kids these days than there ever were. There are unhealthy snacks and video games which keep kids from going outside to play. The good news is that there are plenty of healthy snacks that are good for kids and that will taste good, too.
Peanut Butter – Most kids love peanut butter and it’s not just for sandwiches! It’s great on crackers or even mini waffles for an afternoon treat after school. It also will taste great on apples or other fruit. It’s packed with protein which helps kids’ tummies feel full.
Yogurt – These days there are lots of kid-friendly flavors that parents can choose from. Yogurt is great because it provides calcium, fruit, and protein that kids need. A small carton of yogurt will make a great after-school snack.
Cereal – Do you remember when your kids loved eating dry cereal, when they were kids? Most cereals today are made with whole grain, so they make a great snack after school.

Smoothies – These are a favorite among kids especially when the weather is hot. Smoothies are made with orange juice, fruit, and vanilla yogurt. There are plenty of different recipes online so it’s easy to find one that a kid is going to love. The smoothie will give children dairy, protein, and fruit that they need for their diet. They taste as good as a milkshake and are much healthier, too.
Raisins – Raisins are the kid-friendly snack that’s portable, that’s clean, and that’s healthy. They are full of vitamins, potassium, and fiber, and they are something that kids love to eat.
Popcorn – Popcorn is actually a very healthy snack. You don’t have to pack it with salt and butter to give it flavor. You can add a little parmesan cheese over it or even use a butter spray to give it the flavor without the fat and calories.
As you can see, there are plenty of alternatives to the unhealthy snacks that kids are craving. Snacking the healthy way doesn’t have to be boring or tasteless. It just has to be creative.
