When people think about yoga, most of the times they think of yoga in terms of women. They think that it’s just something that women do and that men should stick with others kinds of sports.  But that is completely false. Men are able to benefit from yoga, too.

There’s a few poses that are great for men to do. Here are two of the popular poses that men can do.

Forward Fold

Stand on your feet, with width of your hips apart.  Then gently hinge forward from your hips and lower your torso in the direction of the floor. Then generously bend both of your knees to remove the pressure from your hamstrings and lower back. Grasp your left elbow with your right hand and your right elbow with your left hand.  Then let gravity to take your body down.  Relax your neck, shoulders, torso, and head. Sway your body slowly. Hold the pose for a minute and then roll yourself up back. This is great for warming up for a workout.

Downward-facing Dog

This is begun on your knees and hands. Your knees and feet should be apart the width of your hands. Your hands should be positioned approximately the width of your shoulders apart and your fingers should be spread wide. Press firmly on your hands, lift both your knees from the ground and then straighten both of your legs.  If your hamstrings are tight, you can keep your knees slightly bent.

Now, move your hands a couple of inches forward and then move your feet back a bit. This will lengthen your pose.  As you are pressing your thighs towards the rear of the room, squeeze them.  You should also press the heels of your feet back and then towards the floor. Now, relax your neck and head and allow your shoulder blades to go back towards your feet.  Put your gaze so that it’s centered to in between your two feet.  Contract your stomach muscles so that it’s sucked in and then engage the muscles in your core. Breath nice and deeply. Then hold it for about three minutes, take a rest, and repeat once again. This is good for releasing tension and building strength.

These are two great yoga poses that men will find useful and that they are able to do. For men who are looking for ways that they can enhance their own workout routine, these two poses are a great idea.
